What is SmartScan?
SmartScan is your faster, smarter way to import Project documents into Loopio.
Powered by Loopio’s Response Intelligence, SmartScan automates the process of turning your Word, PDF and Excel files into a Loopio Project. This means you spend less time importing your document and more time focused on responding.
When Should I Use SmartScan?
As Smartscan is currently in beta, we encourage you to try Smartscan with documents that are not part of a time-sensitive project or deadline.
We are looking for real customer feedback on how Smartscan performs with a wide variety of documents, so please incorporate a mixture of file types and document complexities in your testing.
As part of our staggered beta release, we will support the following functionality. Please note that Additional Answers (available in Classic import), will be supported in a subsequent release.
Character limits will not be able to be added via the edit mapping screen with Smartscan, but you will be able to add them in the Project Workspace instead.
With the new Smartscan beta, you can export to your Source Document, as well as to an Export Theme.
Importing a Project Using SmartScan
- Create a new Project
- Enable SmartScan using the toggle in the New Project step
- Attach a Word, Excel or PDF source document
- Click Next to initiate the SmartScan process
- Your document will be mapped using Loopio’s AI mapping tool, and you will be able to review and make edits before importing:

Adding a mapping: If any mappings are missing, highlight the text and select a mapping type

Editing a mapping: To edit an existing mapping, click on it and select Change Mapping Type

Adding or editing an answer location: Select the question you would like to answer, hover on a new location and click the ‘+’ pill. You can choose if you would like to replace the default answer location or add an Answer Set

Adding a mapping: If any mappings are missing, highlight the text and select a mapping type
- When you are happy with the mappings, select Confirm and Import to import your document

Once you are in the Project Workspace, you can provide us feedback through the link in the header. Your feedback is essential to help us continue to improve our Smartscan functionality!
Beta Limitations
With Smartscan in Beta Release, there are a few known limitations that we are still working through and planning to enhance as part of our ongoing development.
- Latency: we are working to speed up Smartscan loading times across all documents. Currently, load time is approximately 2-10mins for most documents. We expect to see this time decrease as we continue to improve Smartscan
- PDF rendering: When importing some PDFs, we have found some issues when displaying the document. We are currently working on these issues during the Beta
- Additional Answers: Will be supported in a subsequent release
